An Introduction to Meg Finlayson!

Meg Finlayson graduated with a BA (Hons) degree in Classical Studies from the University of Winchester in 2018, with an MSc in Classics from the University of Edinburgh in 2019, and has recently completed their MLitt in Classics at the University of St Andrews. In their undergraduate years Meg ran the Winchester Classics Society and took on a role mentoring first year students in a range of academic skills as part of a Peer Assisted Learning scheme.

Previous research projects include dissertations considering the use of artifice in Arrian and Plutarch’s literary portraits of Alexander the Great and the appropriation of heroic imagery in early Hellenistic royal portraiture. Meg’s research interests include presentations of power and construction of royal identity in art and literature, and the campaigns and reception of Alexander the Great. Meg is also interested in the role of Classics as part of LGBTQ+ history and culture.

Beyond academia Meg is interested in art, journaling, and attempting to keep houseplants alive. In their spare time, Meg can typically be found haunting the beaches and second-hand shops of the Scottish coast, adding to a growing collection of antique books and Classical sculpture replicas.
